MURKOWSKI COULD LEAD GOP REVOLT AGAINST TRUMP - 4.21.25 Countdown with Keith Olbermann

&t=140s

...'SPECIAL COMMENT: Senator Lisa Murkowski may be the most important person in the country right now. Her public confession that she too is afraid of the Trump nightmare and her HINTS at talking to Senate colleagues ABOUT her fear – could provide just enough Republican rebellion to rein Trump in.

It feels as if she just got it, as if she just understood that yes Trump is Nazi-esque and yes Trump often emulates the Soviets but the closest parallel to him is O'Brien and "The Party" in Orwell's "1984" and the simple terrifying conviction that "the object of power is power." That's why I think when Kristi Garden Noem and Secretary of Defense (and Vodka) Hegseth (if he's still on the job after ANOTHER Signal chat came to light) file their report on the border to Trump this week and tell him no, they don't need to invoke The Insurrection Act, he may do it anyway because... the object of power is power.

Murkowski and thirteen other Republican Senators and at most four Republican Representatives can stop this. They can save the country. They can impeach Trump or if they still can’t get over the hump, the 18 of you can use the THREAT to impeach him, to virtually fetter him, to at least control the width and breadth of his damage, to make him know the Senate WILL vote against him.

She can also talk to anybody on the Supreme Court except Alito or Thomas. The other seven, in the middle of the damn night - at 1 AM Saturday - stepped in to freeze any further disappearing Americans under the phony premise of The Alien Enemies Act. And there is reason to hope that these Murkowski-led conversations might happen before the iron curtain of dictatorship descends: Later in her confession of fear, she hinted at doing exactly what I just suggested..."

My words: Video is 1 hour 20 min. Long, but well worth the listen.

Republicans seldom do things that are good for our country. If they do, they are excised from their party and they won't join another.

...but she's scared. And the thing that scares her and her colleagues more than anything is not being senators anymore. The risk of losing the power, the perks, and the opportunity to become one of the noveau riche is too much to bear, and certain too much for us peons to ask for.

I don't recall ever reading anywhere that the Republican senators who went to see Nixon to advise him he'd be convicted should he be impeached had any fear or trepidation about delivering that warning. But their life experience, the experience of so many of them having served in a war where they fought totalitarianism, and later witnessed the excesses of Stalin, Mao, and dozens of other dictators, informed their beliefs that there should be no tolerance of authoritarianism in this country, even from the leader of their party. You'll find more courage in a warren of rabbits than you'd find in elected Republicans these days.

Murkowski's scared, Collins is perpetually deeply concerned, Cassidy and Tillis are up for re-election, Grassley is old, and McConnell is addled. Everyone else is in the tank, or abject cowards so risk averse that if the "Don't Walk" symbol was a silhouette of Trump's fat head, they'd never jaywalk. Most of these folks are already pension-qualified on top of being wealthy, but they know going against Trump would deprive them of any post-Congress sinecure of the type to be found at right-wing think tanks and lobbying firm "consultancies". How could they continue to live without being paid for something no matter how old they are? For them, democracy is nothing more than some industry somewhere being free to give them money.

They're worthless.

Not to appear contrarian but Murkowski hasn't been willing to fight that hard previously when threatened with far less. I just don't see her as a leader in this situation.
Keith often has a well reasoned point to make and usually supports it well. However This sounds like more wishful thinking than likely reality IMO.
The GOP has welded itself to Trump's visions no matter how unconstitutional, preposterous, or bizarre. They may not feel safe or comfortable with the market collapse but they have no leaders to take them out of it. As a party they are not built to make constructive plans and have no practice of or ability to deviate from wherever the leadership tells them to go. In short they are trapped by their own ideology.
They dare not agree with or seek help from Democrats in either House or Senate. Not because of the voters but because Trump and his enablers will do terrible things to the members or their families: financial exposure, personal secrets revealed, outrageous lies told, political and legal persecution, or possibly physical harm.

( from another post I made on face book responding to this same concept)
