Gun dealer association rejects delaying gun sales to people not cleared beyond 3 days

WASHINGTON -- The association representing gun retailers has rejected a call by 13 Democratic senators and nine police organizations to stop selling guns to purchasers who haven't been cleared by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System. [ ref: three day proceed rule ]

The National Shooting Sports Foundation, which represents gun dealers, said the focus shouldn't be on the "back-end of the background check system." Instead, it said, that the focus should be on ensuring that states submit all disqualifying criminal and mental health records to the background check system and that the system gets "the support it needs at the federal and state level." It said 99 percent of delayed background checks eventually end in the approval of the transaction.

The gun lobby excels in circular logic. 99% end in a transfer because of the three day rule but we can't do anything about the three day rule that results in 99% of contested sales being completed.
The other side of this is that in 2008 W Bush signed a bill allocating $1.4 Billion to assist states with improving reporting practices to the NICS. Less than 1% has been spent because the gun lobby, in the form of the NRA, has co-opted the process in the House Appropriations Committee. Now another branch of the gun lobby bitches that the NICS reporting needs to be improved but it doesn't have federal or state support to do so.
The hypocrisy just burns!
BTW, the largest gun seller in the US, Walmart, does not recognize the 3 day proceed rule. If you don't pass the NICS check on the first pass they will not sell to you.
