We all knew the racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, anti LGBTQ, xenophobic .... beliefs were there in (segments of) the population.
"Polite" society would never actually engage in overtly racist/ bigoted behaviors and would at least feign horror at hate crimes and white supremacist/nazi/mra etc stands and groups .... now we see these ideas and actions publicly embraced by large segments of the society ... all the while proclaiming that "they" are not the racists/ bigots ... it's those calling them out that are either bigoted or at fault.
This is probably the most disgusted I have been with our society as a whole ... apparently we no longer know "right from wrong" or what hate and bigotry are
