Gun control / gun ownership / 2nd Amendment issues solved. [View all]

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by eomer (a host of the Creative Speculation group).

I move that we compromise on gun control, and give both sides what they want. The United States Constitution went into effect March 4, 1789, and the Second Amendment (along with the other, lesser 9 Amendments included in the Bill of Rights) went into effect in 1791. As such, I propose that every US citizen that would volunteer to be a member of their State Militia be issued a suitable weapon. Current issue rifles may be traded for a muzzle-loading Kentucky long rifle, semi-auto pistols or revolvers traded for flintlocks, and shotguns traded for era-appropriate blunderbusses. Also, cannon are now legal to own, machine guns are not. All United States citizens that will not, or cannot be a member of a regulated state militia must hereby surrender their firearms.
