Turning them into friends, or at least pulling their fangs! works much better. Even if enemies only become friends of convenience, that's a practical step forward.

Frenemies. As said so often before by those far wiser than I, "Keep your friends close. Keep your enemies closer." I'll bet somewhere in his thick skull, Putin knows he's outmatched.
