Yet here we are: USAID eliminated to "save money" (i.e. funnel cash to things like ballrooms and wealthy donors) and then people die from lack of USAID funding, thereby "decreasing the surplus population" (as Ebenezer Scrooge would say) which eliminates the reason to ever restore that funding and removes the need for Republicans to feel guilty about it (if they ever did).

If this strain of ebola makes it to the West the death rate will be way more expensive in money and lives than prevention would have been. Some day, in some outbreak, it will hit Mar A Lago. It surfaces a few times a year in a few places, and evolves in Africa as it is. Take away health resources and you will pay in the end. And a travel ban like the one the US put up already won't stop the spread. It will only slow it down for a time.

which is why caregivers and other people in close contact with an infected oerson are so vulnerable to catching it.

So it looks like protective clothing and gloves would be essential in an outbreak.
